I was going to do a World Cup blog…..

Posted in: Short 'n Sweet. Tagged: bid, British Media, FIFA, Greg Dyke, HBO, John Oliver, Qatar, racism, Sepp Blatter, World Cup.

….especially following Sepp Blatter’s comments at a FIFA World Cup conference that British media pursuance of the Qatar bid controversy was basically racism!   However, it would be impossible to better this piece from John Oliver on his HBO Show:

Blatter’s comments about the media, made in two separate addresses this week to confederation meetings in Brazil, were challenged by FA Chairman Greg Dyke.

World Cup

Dyke sought-out the FIFA President in person, and gave this response to Blatter, face-to-face:

I regard the comments you made yesterday about the allegations in the British media in which you described them as racist as totally unacceptable.   The allegations being made have nothing to do with racism, they are allegations about corruption within FIFA.   These allegations need to be properly investigated and properly answered.  Mr Blatter, many of us are deeply troubled by your reaction to these allegations.

It’s time for FIFA to stop attacking the messenger and instead consider and understand the message.
