Playing Fast and Luce

Luce

A friend just sent me a review video of the new Ferrari Luce eSUV, mainly to introduce me to the numbingly-boring presenter who was more interested in it being designed by Apple, and spent most of his film wowing about the tactility (yes he actually used that word) of the interior switchgear.

For me, it looks like Ferrari’s equivalent of the Cyber Truck.  It’s too big (unless he was vertically-challenged), too ugly, too blue, too everything Pininfarina would never have even considered for a fraction of a nano-second. Who’s Ferrari’s next exterior design project going to – Jaecoo!?

But I do get his point about the interior – if I had half a million throwaway money, I just might buy it to sit in.
In my batcave.
To play Forza Horizon on.
But I wouldn’t drive a Luce in the open air, even if it was retrofitted with smart glass. Because I would be terrified that the smart glass might fail – regardless of who designed it, this is car software we are talking about here. Then all those sane human beings watching the thing go by whilst saying ‘what sort of dick would spend half a mil on that ugly piece of [insert preferred expletive]’ would actually get to see me doing a Mountbatten-Windsor in the driver’s seat.
Actually, going back to that interior, I might invite someone I really dislike to come for a ride in the front passenger seat, and once they had got over their surprise, stop the car, turn to them and explain that it’s got all sorts of Q-style 007 features, then say cheerio and pull the launch control lever in the roof console.
It would be worth the cleaning bill for the upholstery.
